San Diego Trip for Nephew - Prayers Please

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY


We have answer to prayers!!!
Eric does not have bone cancer!
This means that his cancer remains at Stage 3 Large Cell Lymphoma. If he had been found to have cancer in his bones, it would have been Stage 4 cancer, but since it is NOT in his bones, it is stage 3. Glory to God! Thank you to everyone who prayed!

Eric had his first chemotherapy treatment yesterday. His energy is really drained and he is nauseous. The doctors are working to get his military orders transferred to San Antonio, Texas for two reasons. One being his mom and brother live there, and the second is that there is a military base there where Eric can take the rest of his chemotherapy treatments while being with his family. The doctors feel this is very important for Eric to be with family during chemotherapy treatment so they are working very hard to get his orders transferred as quickly as possible. We would ask that you not only pray for Eric's health as he is so sick at this time, but also for his military orders - that the doctors are able to get them finalized to San Antonio, Texas. They want to fly him to San Antonio quickly before the next chemotherapy treatment time so that he can get settled into my sisters home.

I may be going home in a few days, but my sister will stay here until Eric leaves which we believe will be very soon. Please continue praying for Eric's cancer, the treatments, and the depression he has that has set in; as well as the military orders to get fixed smoothly and correctly which will help Eric if he can get home to San Antonio and be able to stay with his mother and brother. San Diego Trip for Nephew - Prayers Please

Hello dear bloggy friends! I'm in San Diego spending time with my sister and her son, Eric, who is of course, my nephew. I'm asking please for your continued prayers for him who I mentioned in the previous post is 22 years old. He's changed so much losing about 20 or more pounds already, is very weak, and is in an intolerable amount of pain curling up in a fetal position. After doing a PET Scan, the doctors told us he not only has lymphoma cancer in the groin area but also in his abdomen as well as all the way up his abdomen to his chest and below his throat. He has never been a smoker! The doctor stated Eric is in Stage 3 cancer and the name of it is Aplastic large cell lymphoma.

We were so thankful to be able to attend church service yesterday on the Naval base. Eric, my sister, and I attended and it was so good to be together at church.

A bone marrow biopsy was done to see if Eric has cancer in his bones. The doctor stated if Eric has cancer in his bones, he would then be considered to have Stage 4 Cancer. We are waiting on those test results. Please pray for Eric as he is in alot of pain, and please pray for my sister, Sunny, too.

I'm blogging from the hospital library. I'm so thankful they have computer access for us to use. As soon as I know more, I'll be back with more info so please keep watch for more posts and please keep each of us in your prayers, especially Eric. Thank you all for caring!

Prayers Needed Please

PRAYER REQUESTS PLEASE


First Prayer My nephew, Eric is in the military and is 22 years old and single. He had been losing weight for two or three months and had two enlarged areas on his groin. The medics where he was stationed were treating the symptoms by draining the lumps and giving him antibiotics instead of attempting to find out the cause. This past Monday the medics finally brought Eric back and admitted him to a large hospital where he has now had surgery to remove the lumps and has been given a preliminary diagnosis of lymphoma cancer. They have also found two more lumps which are larger than the two they removed which will likely require another surgery. We are awaiting a firm diagnosis from the doctors, however in the meantime, my sister and I are both making travel plans to fly there to be with him immediately. Please pray for my nephew and my sister, as well as me as I support and minister to both of them. My prayer is that the diagnosis is wrong and that my nephew is fully healed in Jesus name. Thank you for your prayers.

Second Prayer There is a young couple, Alyson and Justin, who lost both their jobs and their apartment at the same time. They are around 25 years old and are Christians and were living in their car when they came into the Crisis Center about three weeks ago. There was no way for them to apply for jobs because their clothing was dirty and they had no way to take baths. The crisis center, through donations, managed to place them in a motel with kitchen while they searched for jobs. They both are actively looking from morning till night for work as they check in with personnel from the crisis center almost daily. The good news is Alyson found a job and she is so very excited! Today was her second day at work. Justin has two good leads and one of them he believes is going to hire him. I would like to ask that you keep Alyson and Justin in your prayers. The Director of the Crisis Center has told them after they both obtain work, he will help them get into an apartment which will be far cheaper than paying motel rent. They are trying so very hard and we all just want to see them accomplish their dream of having a place of their own. I know... I know... I'm not suppose to get emotionally attached with people where I volunteer, but it seems I already have with this couple. And ... with my husband being the Director of the Crisis Center, I have someone to continuously tell me to be careful or I'll become too attached. Yes, he knows me. smiles! Please keep Alyson and Justin in your prayers that Justin will also get a good job very soon; that their car will continue working for them driving so far; and that they will soon be in their very own apartment. Thank you for listening and for your prayers.

Operation Christmas Child - Fill a Shoe Box

Operation Christmas Child

Have you filled your shoe box yet for Operation Christmas Child ? Small gifts, hair brushes or combs, toothbrushes and toothpaste, school supplies and other small items are filled in a shoe box and given to needy children through the Samaritan's Purse organization each year during the Christmas season. You can be a part of this, however, the deadline is almost here. The boxes are suppose to be taken by each of us as donors to the drop off locations between November 17 to November 24, 2008.

You can pack the Christmas gift box yourself by obtaining the information from the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child website. Follow the directions for filling your box, what to place inside, appropriate label for boy or girl, etc. The website takes you through each step of the way. Be sure to click on drop off locations and enter your zipcode to obtain the closest location to deliver your Christmas box after you have it ready.

If you want to help make a child's Christmas special this year but don't have time to fill a shoe box, you can also go to the Samaritan's Purse website and click on Make a Donation and choose "Operation Christmas Child" as the purpose of your donation. Volunteers at the organization will then fill a shoe box for you, and send it for a child during Christmas. By filling the box yourself and dropping it off, or making a donation and letting a volunteer of Samaritan's Purse fill a box for you, either way you will be making a difference to a needy child this year during the holiday season.

I'm Backkk - I Missed You All

Hello Friends,

I know ... I haven't been here in a really long while. I missed you all. So much has happened. I didn't mean to ignore anyone; I just had to take time away. Extra special sincere thanks to Denise at Shortybear's Place for her loving help to me and my husband when I had surgery last year and for staying in touch with my husband and for being such a prayer warrior while I was in ICU when my kidneys failed. I almost died. Many of you know as you prayed for me and I thank God for each of you. To God's Glory my kidneys started working again after three months of dialysis. Please forgive me that I have not been back here to share with you again. It was never my intention to hurt anyone or leave you out of my life and I hope you can forgive me for not checking in with you. It was at that time I decided to spend more time with God. He spoke to me then about my time while I was ill. To God be the Glory great things He has done. I now spend more time with my Lord, my husband, family and volunteering at a crisis center. I still may not blog often but know I still think of each of you I came to know. I hope to stop by each of your blogs and check on your personally very soon. I pray you all have been well and blessed by God.

God is in Control






Hello Friends and Family,

It is really me, the Grandma around here! :) For over a month now you have been receiving updates written by my husband and posted by Denise at her blog Shortybear's Place. I am blessed Denise would do this for me taking her own time and space on her blog. Much love and hugs to Denise. You ARE a God send; a true prayer warrior. I will never forget what you did for me and hope you will forgive me that I was unable to stay in touch.

Special thanks to my dear hubby for getting the updates out to Denise and also to many other dear blogging friends who emailed or left comments on my blog. I must tell you each prayer was felt. After spending almost two weeks or more in ICU sleeping, (all still a blur to me); I cried as my husband read to me messages many sent with prayers, good thoughts, and well wishes.

I'm still in dialysis 3 days a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. This past Thursday at dialysis, the doctor informed me my dialysis port/catheter was not working properly and I was not getting full use of my dialysis time as they couldn't get the port to work. Therefore, he told me to go to the hospital Friday morning and he would place it in my chest again. Something I was not looking forward to because it hurts badly and is so very tender with stitches which were still in there from the first port they placed in me back while I was in the hosital. Before they placed the new catheter into a new port area of my chest, they did what they called "vein mapping" of the veins in my arms in the event they still see no changes in my kidneys working. They placed an IV in each of my thumbs, wow, that is a tender area, and then ran some type of dye into the veins of my arms to map the veins for a future shunt they may have to place for dialysis should 'they' decide my kidneys are damaged and will not ever work again.

I am NOT giving up on my kidneys working. I am currently "resting in Jesus" and praying for strength, peace, and healing.

Wordless Wednesday - Please Pray for Me


Hello friends, I realize this is Wordless Wednesday, but I have a need today.

I'm asking for prayers please. I found out this morning I will be having surgery Wednesday morning, May 9, 2007 about 7:00 AM. I have no choice; surgeon states it is an emergency. I'm unsure presently how long I'll be in-patient; I'm praying to be home within a day or two, but it depends on many things.

I would greatly appreciate prayers for the next few days, but especially Wednesday morning as I go into surgery. I've prayed with my husband and pastor and I'm at peace with the decision for surgery; and have great faith things will work out exactly as God wills. Thank you for your prayers.

My husband will email Denise at Shortybear's Place blog to let her know how my surgery went, and she can possibly place an update on her blog if you are interested, or email her for an update, whichever works best for Denise.

I look forward to catching up with comments and how everyone is doing when I'm able to return to the computer again. I'll miss each of you this week. God bless you always as you have blessed me.

Thankful Thursday


I'M THANKFUL FOR

* My savior, Jesus Christ.
* My husband who was also my junior high/high school sweetheart.
* My children and grandchildren.
* All my new blogging friends and sisters in Christ.
* Encouraging e-cards and emails from someone very near and dear.
* I AM Bible Study at The Preacher's Wife blog.
* Two days spent with a friend who needs prayers and a listening ear.
* Through prayer, I can ask my Heavenly Father for "spiritual eyes".
* The realization that even though my earthly father passed away a year ago next Thursday, I will always have a Heavenly Father.
* Loving church family who treats us like real family which is truly a blessing since my husband and I both lost our last parent in 2006.
* Making it through a bad storm with tornadoes and strong winds in our area Wednesday.

Lesson One: I AM Your Beauty ~ Just in Time - Acts 7:17-20


Question: Are there any circumstances or relationships in your life where you can see God has intentionally placed you to be a light for Him?

Answer: Yes, definitely with family members who are unsaved. Also, six years ago when my husband and I, with God's blessings, had a house built and were moving, we hired someone to clean our old house as we had no time. The person who cleaned our old house later became one of our very dear friends and we continue to keep in touch, visit, pray and share together. Just last year she accepted Christ into her life and I am now helping her through a difficult time which occurred due to her new faith in Jesus Christ.

Question: Can you honestly describe yourself as a woman with a 'yes' in her spirit?

Answer: Two or more years ago, I could not answer this with an honest yes as I became intimidated easily, was rather shy and uncomfortable - especially in group situations. However, God has been strengthening me in the past two years to bring me to where I can now say "yes" and know that He will give me the strength to do whatever He asks of me.

Question: Are you in an emotionally and spiritually healthy place today? If so, what will you do with your series of unrecurring events? Will you commit to ask for spiritual eyes to see opportunities to defend a weaker sister?

Answer: I am stronger emotionally and spiritually more so these past two years than I have been in previous years, and will definitely commit to praying for spiritual eyes so that I do not miss any opportunities to serve Him or defend weaker sisters.

B.A.D.

While shopping at a local store, a woman spotted a
man with an acronym on his T-shirt that just had the letters
B.A.D. printed across the front.

Being the curious person she was, she stopped the man
and asked, "What does B.A.D. stand for?"
She was amazed at what his response was.

He replied to let her know that B.A.D. stands for
"Blessed And Delivered".

After hearing this, the thought stuck with her as she finished doing her shopping that day. So she came up with a little advice to share. Note from Grandma: I also added to this including the last three points which I feel describes just how B.A.D. we are!

* When the enemy tries to attack you, be B.A.D.

* When things at work are stressful, be B.A.D.

* When you're feeling down, remember how B.A.D. you are!

* When you feel you can't go on, remember YOU ARE B.A.D.

* When your have a broken heart, remember
YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD - YOU ARE B.A.D.

Our God is a God of Suddenlies!


In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalms 5:3

Think about this. Our God is a God of Suddenlies!

He can suddenly heal our bodies.
He can suddenly give you or your husband that promotion.
God can suddenly answer our long-awaited prayers.
Suddenly people were healed when Jesus touched them.
Suddenly Jesus will come in a moment in the twinkling of an eye.

When we keep our hearts open, expectant, and filled with faith, it gives God something to work with. In the same way Jesus turned the five loaves of bread and two fish into lunch for 5,000 men (Matthew 14:17), God can take our faith in Him and turn it into the answer to prayer we need!

The enemy's goal is to steal our hope as he tried to do to me earlier this week. He wants to get us down and discouraged so that we will give up and settle for less than God's best. Let's not be deceived by the enemy! No matter how many disappointments we've encountered, God can turn things around for each of us in a split second of time! One touch of His favor can suddenly restore relationships! One touch of His goodness can solve that problem we're facing today! Just one touch from Almighty God can instantly change our life!

A Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, each day I come before You with my praises and my thanks, my joys, my concerns, and my requests - I will wait patiently and expectantly for Your answer, as I am filled with faith!

In the blessed name of Jesus I pray,
Amen!

Thankful Thursday



Dear Friends,

I almost decided not to post today for Thankful Thursday. Then I thought ... Why would I consider not posting as I have so much to be thankful for! I felt I had not been thinking clearly - like brain fog - so I had been taking additional quiet time which of course is a good thing - we all need more quiet time with God. But you know what I realized? It isn't brain fog I was experiencing. It was the enemy trying to steal my joy. We've all been there! The enemy doesn't want me, you, or anyone in this world to be thankful today or any other day. So today, let me just make this statement: The evil one doesn't win this time. PRAISE THE NAME OF JESUS!

I'M THANKFUL FOR
* The fact that the enemy WILL NOT steal my joy today!
* Every blog I've read this week which encouraged and lifted my spirits.
* God speaking to me through His word this week.
* More prayer and quiet time.
* A loving family and a husband who is so dear.
* For caring friends who email, send e-cards, or leave encouraging comments.
* Finding a Christian blogging community. While reading many blogs - I have been blessed time and time again! I praise God for helping me find each of you.

Written by My Husband: Celebrating Life

Hello everyone,

My dear husband recently wrote to document a recent event in his life to give praise to God. I pray you enjoy reading as he shares today and hoping he'll share with us many more times. hint hint ;-)

CELEBRATING LIFE
I just recently received a marvelous blessing. I went to the doctor for a routine physical because my brother had heart by pass surgery and because there is a strong history of heart disease in my family, plus my wife encouraged me to go and get checked. I have always been healthy and denied that I could have any health issues. Well, after a stress test and an angiogram, I found out that one of my coronary arteries was 99% blocked. What could have turned out to be a massive heart attack only days away, was an intervention by God, just for me.

It just overwhelms me to reflect on how much God loves me. Jesus died on the cross for me and He rose again so I might have everlasting life. What amazing grace !

In John 11:25, Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die".

I am so thankful for God’s grace and mercy and His promise in Jeremiah 29:11 came alive for me.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".

* my personal relationship with Jesus Christ

* for the blessing of several days of rain needed so badly

* for the positive check-up my husband had at the Cardiologist

* long phone conversations with my son

* my hubby, children, grandchildren, and all my family

* I'm thankful to God for loving me through my weaknesses

    Thankful Thursday

    I can never thank God enough for saving me, for forgiving my sins, and how He still loves me despite my weaknesses.

    I'm thankful to Him for answered prayers, and even for the prayers which He hasn't answered yet -- as I know He is using this time to teach me to wait on Him.

    I feel truly blessed and always thankful to God for my dear husband of almost 38 years because I know God chose him for me. He calls me from work to make sure I'm okay, and reminds me when I'm troubled over something to give it to God. I'm thankful my husband loves Jesus our Lord and Savior as much as I do.

    How blessed and thankful I am for the phone ringing and hearing one of my granddaughters on the other end from almost 2,000 miles away. I love to listen to her as she happily shares with me about school, friends, grades, and how she can't wait until summer to visit us. I'm thankful my grandchildren all know Jesus as their savior.

    I am thankful for Ronalfy.com - Life is a blog, who is, by his own title, an opinionated Christian writer. He is participating in Reader Appreciation Week April 9-13, 2007, and is sharing many blessings with his readers by giving away a few prizes. Guess what? I am thankful as I won a $50 Best Buy Gift Card. It is an answer to prayer as we had been praying about needing something from there, so here is our answer! Thanks again!

    I'm thankful I felt God placed it on my heart to visit a new blog yesterday -- the blog of Lisa at The Preacher's Wife ... as He pointed me to the Bible Study Series Lisa is beginning this week.     In Loving Memory of Our Sweet Daughter

    In remembrance of our sweet daughter, we would like to share a few pictures by way of the slide show above, as well as some of our loving memories in celebration of her life.


    Our daughter was born in 1974 and passed away in April 2003 at the young age of 29 years old due. Her passing was due to complications of Type 1 insulin-dependent Juvenile Diabetes which she was diagnosed with at the age of 10. She remained healthy while growing up other than having diabetes. At the time of her passing, her twin girls were only 8 years old. She loved her little girls dearly and they love and miss their mommy so very much. They now live with their father in another state and we usually get to see them for 4 to 6 weeks during the summer, at Christmas, and sometimes on other occasions if it works out since they live almost 2,000 miles away. Moving away to another state was very hard on them for a long time as they lived in this state when their mommy passed away, plus their mother is buried here.


    MEMORIES
    I remember the day I drove "B" to the first sonogram appointment as her husband couldn't be off work to go with her. The nurse doing the sonogram kept staring at the screen as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing. She then told "B" I see two babies, did you know you were having twins? "B" and I both quickly turned our heads and stared at each other in amazement, and then turned back to look at the screen. "B" quickly stated, no, the doctor never told me I was having twins. The nurse then said, well, you are definitely having twins! She then pointed to the screen and showed both of us the outline of the two babies. We were both so very happy and "B" told me no one would believe us, especially her husband. We left there ecstatic thinking of not one, but two babies! Her husband was really happy as was the rest of the family. Her pregnancy went very well. She was hospitalized for the last 3-4 weeks of her pregnancy to monitor her glucose levels and delivered her twins two weeks early. They each weighed exactly 5 lbs and 5 1/2 ounces. They have no health problems other than one having seasonal allergies and the other with seasonal allergies and asthma. It's amazing to watch them grow up, especially since her first gynecologist suggested she abort the pregnancy. She changed doctors and hospitals and received very good prenatal care.




    "B" was an avid I Love Lucy fan and collector of I Love Lucy Show memorabilia; including several types and sizes of Lucy, Ricky, Ethel and Fred dolls, collector plates, purses, clocks, pictures, a lamp ... and well really, everything she could find and had the extra funds to purchase. Many of the items she obtained were given to her as gifts; others she found at places such as the Lucille Ball - Desi Arnaz Center in Jamestown, New York, eBay auctions, flea markets, garage sales, and from Cathy's Closet, an online Lucy store. She always wanted to attend one of the Lucy-Desi Festivals held yearly, however, her health was never strong enough to make the trip.




    There were two additional collections "B" had started including Raggedy Ann and Andy and Campbell's Soup decor and dishware. She had totally decorated her entire kitchen in all things having to do with Campbell's Soup and absolutely loved her Campbell's Soup kitchen. It was totally cute! She didn't have near as much Campbell's or Raggedy Ann and Andy items as she did her I Love Lucy memorabilia. Our family always knew what to get her for birthdays, Christmas, or other special occasions. Her collections are being saved for her twin girls.




    Our daughter also loved God and wanted to serve Him by working in the church nursery rocking babies while their parents attended services, and while her twin girls were in Sunday School class. She was faithful to this even showing up when her health was failing. As long as she felt strong enough to stand and to hold the babies, they could definitely count on her being there. They also called on her when others could not keep their commitment as she was such a reliable little worker.




    If you have seen the movie Steel Magnolias which was released in 1989, it may help you to understand what happened to our dear daughter's little body after giving birth to her twin girls. It was much like "Shelby" went through in Steel Magnolias. In the movie, Shelby has Type 1 Diabetes, and her character is played by Julia Roberts. The character of her mother, M'Lynn, is played by Sally Field. The story involves not only Shelby's marriage which is a huge celebration, but the later struggles between Shelby and her mother who is totally against Shelby getting pregnant due to her own fears of her daughter's health deteriorating. Shelby continues to insist she will have a child when the time is right. It's a very beautiful and moving movie which brought me to tears even though "B" was not yet pregnant when the movie was released. The movie is still a favorite of mine even though it is even harder for me to watch now.




    There are two additional blog posts I wrote earlier regarding our daughter; one on her birthday, January 13, 2007, entitled Daughter Happy Birthday in Heaven! Forever 29. I shared how we were able to handle our grief because of our strong faith, belief, and loving trust in our Savior, Jesus Christ. The second blog post on our daughter was written on February 12, 2007, and is titled Loss of our Child which shares more regarding "B's" passing, as well as including recommended grief books and grief resources for adults and children.




    She is forever on our minds and in our hearts. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her. It was an emotionally painful time losing her, not only for us, but you can imagine what her girls went through losing "mommy". Please know ... we have a strong faith in God. It is GOD that got us through this painful time by picking each of us up out of the deep pit of our despair and loving us through our grief. My dear husband and I could never imagine dealing with the grief of losing anyone in our life without God filling that gaping hole within us. Our daughter's twin girls will be 13 this year and their faith and love for God is amazing. Each of us know WITHOUT ANY DOUBT WE WILL be with her again when we all get to Heaven.


    Today on the four year anniversary of her passing, we sing praises to God for His love, peace, and comfort, as we celebrate our dear daughter's life with loving memories and a heart full of thankfulness to God for His faithfulness.

    Thankful Thursday

  • I'm so thankful for our Lord Jesus Christ, and that He gave His life for each of us so that all who believe in Him, will not perish, but may have eternal life. He died for me, forgave and saved me from my sins, and He loves me unconditionally. God is so good!

  • My son lives in another state with his wonderful family and is career military. My DH and I are so proud and thankful for the loving Christian man of God he is and that his beautiful family worships God together. We share phone calls and e-mails and never hang up from conversations without saying "I love you".

  • I have three sisters I'm truly thankful for as they are such a blessing. Always checking on me, listening to me when I'm sad, making me laugh at crazy little things as only they can, and being there for me as I grieved the loss of my daughter. When I was in the hospital they all came for a visit even though they each live six hours away. They painted my nails, fixed my hair, kept me laughing, and were such a blessing to me I didn't want them to leave!

  • I praise and thank God for the beauty of His creations He gave us to enjoy while on this earth, with all the glorious colors of each season.

  • I want to express thankfulness to the owners of Mister Linky who created the wonderful Linky widgets many of us use in our blogs. The support person answered my e-mails and silly questions quickly and was ever so helpful to me in getting everything working properly. So here's a special SHOUT OUT and thank you to Mister Linky!

    Thankful Thursday

  • I am so very thankful for my Bible and how God speaks to us through His scriptures like the verse quoted above. This verse reminds me that I have a direct line to our Lord. For He says in His word - "Call to Me" - therefore, I can use my direct line of prayer to Him anytime of the day or night and He is there to listen! Each of us has that same direct line! Just pray! God is so good!


  • I am ever so thankful for my dear hubby's renewed health. God was ever so present with my hubby during the heart event of this past weekend. We sing praises to your name, Oh Lord ... praises to your name, ... for God is great ... and greatly to be praised! See my blog post of March 27.


  • We are so thankful and blessed with a very loving church family and pastor. They are so full of hugs and smiles for each and every person. This means so much to us especially this past year, as my hubby's dear mother who lived in our city passed away and we were left feeling a little empty with no other family near. But not anymore, as we realized God gave us this loving family of God ... and what a blessing they are to us!

    God Bless My Dear Husband's Heart



    Husband and Doctors

    My sweet husband and I have been married almost 38 years and I love him dearly. He is one of those men who ab-so-lute-ly hates going to doctors and will tell you he is well or feeling great when he really isn't. Do you know someone like this? Oh my ... it is like pulling teeth to get him to the doctor. It wasn't until his younger brother suddenly needed a quadruple bypass in February that my DH became concerned and decided it was time to have his heart checked. His family has a strong history; both parents having passed away due to heart disease, his dad at the early age of 55.


    First Test Scheduled

    A cardiac stress test was scheduled for March 16. After the test, we met with the cardiologist who stated his heart 'appears' strong. We were so thankful to hear this great news and thought nothing further would be needed, however, his cardiologist felt differently. Due to his symptoms as well as family history, she felt a cardiac catheterization test was necessary to rule out Coronary Artery Disease. His symptoms included shortness of breath, some chest pain on exertion, along with sweating more than normal - all of which had been going on approximately three months. For these reasons, a Cardiac Caththeterization Test was scheduled March 23 the following week.


    Cardiac Catheterization Testing

    The day of the cardiac cath test the cardiologist prepared us by stating, if during the catheterization she found any blockage in the arteries, she would immediately change course and take the appropriate action to correct the problem. DH of course signed papers agreeing to whatever the cardiologist deemed necessary as we trust her opinion. We had both been praying about this and had a definite feeling of God's presence the entire time and felt at peace knowing God was in full control.


    A Long Wait and Much Prayer

    The nurse showed me to the waiting room and told me the Cardiologist would come there after finishing the test to let me know how it went. It was expected to last about one to one-and-a-half hours. I was praying and my faith was strong. I began reading an inspirational book I had brought and sat there praying and reading through the first hour, then two hours passed and I became concerned. I feel this is a normal reaction when the love of your life is having an extremely important health test. Still in my heart I felt totally aware of God's presence. I went into the nurses area and asked if they had heard anything from the doctor regarding my husband. One of the nurses proceeded to ask me if the doctor or her nurse had called me in the waiting room. I stated "no, I had not received any calls". The nurse then stated the only thing she could share was the doctor had found something during the testing, but that was all she knew presently ... and I would need to wait for the doctor to discuss the details. So... off I went to the waiting room again for more time in prayer. During this time I continued to feel strongly God was in complete control.


    The Call Finally Came

    About an hour later a nurse called the waiting room phone to ask me to come into the recovery area. There I saw my husband already awake, alert, and telling me he felt great. LOL I KNEW he would say that! This is coming from a man who hasn't taken a sick day from work since 2001. God bless him, he loves the work he does; considering it a ministry instead of work.


    Doctor Report

    Our Cardiologist came in and shared with us her findings. She stated there was an artery behind his heart which was 99% blocked. The blockage was found in the left anterior circumflex artery. She then used a stent procedure with balloon angioplasty. The procedure involves placing a mesh-like metal device into an artery at a site which is narrowed. The stent is mounted on a balloon-tipped catheter, threaded through an artery, and positioned at the point of blockage. The balloon is then inflated, opening the stent. The catheter and deflated balloon are then removed, leaving the stent in place. The opened stent keeps the vessel open and stops the artery from collapsing. His cardiologist used one of the newer stents which are medicated that help keep the artery from closing up again. These are called coated stents or drug-eluting stents. He was admitted to the hospital and was able to go home the following day which was a Saturday. We were so worn out we came home and slept until late that evening. On Sunday morning I wasn't sure he would feel up to church, however, he definitely wanted to go, and we did. He's sore from the cut in his groin and still a bit weak, but doing great otherwise.



    Praises to God

    There is a Christian song entitled "I Sing Praises to Your Name". The words express our feelings completely. We are filled with so much thankfulness and praises to our Lord. He is always there for us - not only when we have mountaintop experiences but also in the valleys or uncertainties of life. I have to say though, neither of us felt we were experiencing a valley of uncertainty. We felt God's presence so strongly it was awesome. God is so good, and greatly to be praised!

    Are you a Grace Giver? Captured by Grace?

    Someone has written that grace is a five-letter word that is often spelled J-E-S-U-S .... He was the once-and-for-all perfect human image of grace, of love, of truth.


    "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God .... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth .... For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (John 1:1, 14, 17)


    In the Greek tongue of Paul's day, the word for "grace" was charis. It carried the connotation of graciousness or favor. But the term evolved in the Greek world until it meant the actual gift, the concrete expression of kindness. Grace happens. As Paul explained it, "The free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many." (Romans 5:15)


    Grace happens, and it acts, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God". (Ephesians 2:8)


    Such grace can come only from God. It is the gift unsought, unmerited, unlimited. For no matter what we have done, no matter the depth of our transgression, the darkness of our hearts - grace overrules them all. God pursues us relentlessly. He will not give us up, and once He has captured us, He won't let us go.


    When grace happens in our lives, it cannot be contained. It must spill into the lives of those around us. May you find yourself Captured by Grace and transformed into a Grace Giver.

    March is DVT Awareness Month


    Why am I blogging on DVD and Pulmonary Embolism?
    Not only is March DVT Awareness Month, it is also a medical condition which is personal to me due to my own frightening experiences with DVTs and pumonary embolism. I've experienced it at least three times in a two year period. The first time it almost killed me as it made its way to my lungs. The doctors thought it was asthma, however, breathing treatments did me NO good! Finally I was diagnosed, but it almost killed me waiting. The doctors then stated I had peripheral pulmonary embolism which adds up to multiple blood clots in both lungs.

    During my last hospitalization with blood clots, the doctor placed a Greenfield Vena Cava Filter. I call it my little umbrella. Check out the picture. It's a cool little device and it is saving my life. In addition, I will be taking 1 mg of Coumadin/Warfarin once a day the rest of my life to keep my blood flowing through the filter so that it does not clog.

    Statistics
    * Did you know complications from DVT blood clots kill up to 200,000 people in the U.S. each year?
    * According to the American Heart Association, DVT occurs in about 2 million Americans every year.
    * More people suffer from DVT annually than heart attack and stroke.
    * Up to 600,000 patients are hospitalized each year for DVT.
    * Pulmonary embolism causes more deaths annually in the United States than breast cancer, AIDS and highway fatalities (combined).
    * Fatal PE may be the most common preventable cause of hospital death in the United States.
    * Only one-third of hospitalized patients with risk factors for blood clots received preventive treatment, according to a U.S. multicenter study.
    * Without preventive treatment, up to 60 percent of patients who undergo total hip replacement surgery may develop DVT.
    * Cancer patients undergoing surgical procedures have at least twice the risk of postoperative DVT and more than three times the risk of fatal PE than non-cancer patients undergoing similar procedures.
    * In the elderly, DVT is associated with a 21 percent one-year mortality rate, and PE is associated with a 39 percent one-year mortality rate.
    * PE is the leading cause of maternal death associated with childbirth. A woman's risk of developing Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is six times greater when she is pregnant.

    What is DVT?
    Deep Vein Thrombosis, or DVT, is a blood clot which can form in your legs and sometimes move to your lungs, where it could be fatal. In fact, complications from DVT blood clots contribute to more deaths each year than AIDS and breast cancer combined. And cancer and certain heart or respiratory diseases increase the risk. But the good news is, in most cases, DVT blood clots can be prevented.

    Random Acts of Kindness - Pay it Forward

    Pay it Forward

    Have you ever been the recipient of "Random Acts of Kindness" or are you the person who frequently practices helping others anonymously? It's such an awesome experience to give something to someone anonymously, expecting nothing in return. It may be something as small as sending a card to someone who has been ill signing it "someone who cares", or leaving a bag of groceries on the porch of a family in need. These acts of helping others are no small act in the eyes of the person who receives them.

    If you have seen the movie Pay It Forward starring Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, and Haley Joel Osment, then you know something about this pay it forward idea.

    Synopsis of the movie:

    Eleven-year old Trevor McKinney (played by Haley Joel Osment) lives in the working class section of Los Angeles with his mother, Arlene. Arlene (played by Helen Hunt) wants to be a good mother to Trevor, and works two jobs trying to give him a better life.

    When Trevor's social studies teacher Eugene Simonet (played by Kevin Spacey) gives him an assignment - think of a way to change our world and put it into action - it stirs something in Trevor. He comes up with "pay it forward" where each person does something for three people that helps them turn their life around. As Trevor struggles with his plan, ripples begin to be felt by others in his life, and unbeknownst to him, "pay it forward" actually begins to work.


    There are many ways we can "Pay it Forward" or do a "Random Act of Kindness" for someone. Here are just a few ideas:

    1. Mow the yard of an elderly or ill neighbor.
    2. Shovel snow for someone.
    3. Pay for the coffee of the next person in line.
    4. Prepare a nutritious sack lunch to give to a homeless person.
    5. If you see someone having a bad day, stop to listen to them - hand them a flower - anything - to make a difference in their day.
    6. Run or walk a race, or walk for the cure to help fund research for an incurable disease. An example would be the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk for the Cure held nationwide each year.
    7. Volunteer at a hospital, nursing home, hospice, or non-profit agency.
    8. Volunteer at your child or grandchild's school.
    9. Babysit for free for a mom who needs a day to herself.
    10. Offer to drive elderly or disabled people to appointments or the grocery store.
    11. Send money anonymously to someone experiencing financial difficulty.
    12. Pay a highway toll for the person behind you.
    13. Buy a movie pass for two and give it to friends who can use a night out.
    14. Leave your newspaper behind for the next person to read.
    15. Donate a bag of food to your local community or church food pantry.
    16. Crochet or knit baby hats and blankets to donate to a local hospital nursery.
    17. Donate to a non-profit organization to help individuals or families in need.
    18. Teach your children or grandchildren the act of giving. When you do this, you will have taught another generation the self-less act of helping others or of giving from their heart without expecting a return.

    There are so many ways to make someones day, both large and small. These little anonymous acts of kindness can be done on your own or with the help of a few websites who provide smile cards or pre-printed notes to leave behind - in addition to organizations who invite you to give even a small amount to help someone in need.

    Here are just a few sites you might wish to visit - which exist to make a difference in lives:

    Modest Needs - Read about a unique challenge on Modest Needs Blog written by Dr. Keith Taylor regarding John - a man who searched the Internet with keywords "pay it forward" and came across Modest Needs website. He then wrote a letter to the organization sharing a challenge presented by his pastor. The challenge was made not only to John, but to all members of the church he attended in Osage Beach, Missouri. In addition to reading John's challenge, if you take a few extra minutes to read some of the testimonials from individuals who have been helped by Modest Needs, you will see why I believe John chose "Modest Needs" to accomplish his challenge.

    Pay it Forward Foundation - began by Catherine Ryan Hyde, who is the author who wrote the book "Pay It Forward".

    HelpOthers.org - Volunteer run website who publishes weekly kindness newsletters and ships "smile cards" all over the world for free. Check their site to find out about "smile cards" and how they are used. Also, please take the time to read a few of the "Kindness Stories" from people who already take part in the "random act of kindness" or "pay it forward" concept.

    Random Acts of Kindness Foundation - inspires people to practice kindness and to “pass it on” to others. Provides free educational and community ideas, guidance, and other resources to kindness participants through their website. Picture used on this blog post courtesy of this foundation.

    Dream Weaver's Foundation - a non-profit organization that engages in acts of kindness to people in need or to individuals who have a wish, fulfilling those needs or wishes anonymously.

    GivingGame.org - created in response to the events of 9/11. It is a positive expression of energy that is focused on expanding the spirit of giving and kindness in an effort to create stronger, healthier communities.

    The Birthday Boy .. uh..sorry.. I mean Man

    Happy Birthday Son


    On this day 36 years ago, I gave birth to our son "J". His birth was such a proud moment for us. Things were different back then as there were no pre-birth parenting classes to attend, and ... fathers were not permitted to be with their wife during most of the labor or in the operating room. While pregnant, if you couldn't sleep you were given Valium; if you had a headache you were told to take whatever pain reliever med you had available. There were also no ultrasounds during the pregnancy to find out the sex of the baby, therefore, yellow became the color scheme for our nursery and I'm sure many other parents during that period. Some may be surprised to learn that in the 1960's and 1970's mothers in labor were given anesthesia during childbirth. Yes, I was knocked totally out! Mothers were not given an option then; the doctor made all the decisions.

    On the morning of our son's birth, my hubby was in the waiting room with other expectant fathers. There was a TV monitor mounted near the ceiling in the waiting room. After nervously pacing and waiting all through the night, he said all of a sudden he heard the words "Mr. B you have a son"! He told me he looked up at the television monitor and saw a nurse holding our son up to the screen so that he could see him. Afterward, he said other fathers in the waiting room gathered around to congratulate him. I believe my husband saw our son before I did through the TV monitor since I was still knocked out from anesthesia.

    Many years have now passed and today our son is a career military man, happily married to his high school sweetheart and has two children. They live in another state and we try to see them as much as possible, however, we miss them terribly. We're so very proud of him as a Christian husband, father, son, and leader in his particular branch of military.

    Sharing Love with Grandchildren Across the Miles



    Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6


    We love our grandchildren dearly, and when you live across the miles as we do, we try to find ways to stay in touch. We enjoy sending them little things ... be it a note, a card, their own special letter, some candy, a little cash at special times even if it is one or two dollars. Yes, e-mails are nice, but don't forget how letters, notes, and cards can be kept as keepsakes by your grandchildren. They can look back on them as they get older and see the dates and also what State it was postmarked from, as well as how postage stamps looked in the time period of your mailing.

    For example on Valentine's Day since they live in another state, we sent conversation hearts and gum (always a favorite) - along with a card and a little cash for their fantastic grades in school! We're so proud of each of them and always want to let them know how special and loved they are ... not only in our eyes, but in God's eyes! As grandparents, we don't 'always' need to send cash or something we purchased, as even receiving mail from their grandparents is special. This reminds them we are thinking of them and keep them in our hearts.

    Report card time is always a special time to remember your grandchildren. Send them a special letter, a note, or make them a card yourself and let them know just how proud you are of them for working so hard in school. Kids love little drawings on their letters or cards so try that as well! Children will never forget the words "I'm proud of you" - and of course always hearing you tell them how very much they are loved - whether it be by letter or hearing your voice - it is something they will never forget.

    When you take time to make a special phone call just to talk to your grandchild and their parent answers, ask if you can speak to each of your grandchildren first, and then you would love to say hello to them when you are finished. Parents won't mind. They will be happy you are keeping in touch - and your grandchildren will know they received a phone call just for them.

    One of our children as well as our parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles have all passed away which is a sad feeling if we stop and think of all the losses in our life. Our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and serving Him ... as well as knowing without a doubt that we will see our daughter and other family one day in Heaven is what lifts us up and keeps our hearts filled with joy.

    We can personally recommend the book entitled "Confessions of a Grieving Christian" by Zig Ziglar. It helped us greatly during our grieving process. It is one of those books you can't put down after beginning to read.

    Losing a loved one is never easy. Our daughter, Brandi, was in her twenties when she passed due to complications of Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. She had two young elementary age girls.

    Daughter Happy Birthday in Heaven! Forever 29!

    Our dear daughter was only 29 years old when she passed away in April 2003 due to complications of Juvenile Diabetes. At the time of our daughter's passing, her twin girls were only 8 years old.


    We can share with you firsthand the death of a child is not easy, and for B's twin girls, losing their mommy was so very hard on them. It is our faith, belief, and trust in Jesus Christ which got us through this hard time in each of our lives. And because our sweet daughter was also a believer, we know without a doubt we will see her again in Heaven. Until then, we all love and miss her always!
